Lot Essay

This bowl is a study in lyricism and innovation. Undaunted by its shallow draw, Knox 'floats' the vessel on circular feet similarly employed on his wonderful Cymric silver bowls of the same period cf. Martin, S. (ed) Archibald Knox, London: ArtMedia Press, 2001, page 207. He then encircles its girth with almost musically conceived Celtic knotting.
