Lot Essay

The Beatles took over the Saville Theatre on this day to film promotional clips for their forthcoming single Hello Goodbye, with Paul McCartney taking charge as the director. Three different clips were recorded - one with The Beatles wearing their Sgt. Pepper uniforms in front of a psychedelic backdrop, one with The Beatles wearing their everyday clothes in front of a pastoral backdrop and another with footage including the group doing the 'Twist' in front of a sequinned backdrop (this third clip was not used). The negatives in this lot appear to show the group in front of the backdrop used in the third, unused clip.
