A Direction for the English Traviller by which he shal be inabled to Coast about all England and Wales, [London]: John Garrett, [1677]. 12° (125 x 78mm.). Engraved throughout, one folding letterpress table of highways and roads and 40 maps (only?), 37 double-page and on guards, 3 folding (maps of London, Wales and Yorkshire), all but one map engraved by Jacob van Langeren, the map of England by Kip. (Worming throughout with slight loss, more pronounced at beginning, mainly marginal waterstaining, but affecting image of the 3 folding maps, margins soiled and a few short tears). Contemporary calf, single blind-stamped border on sides (lacking clasps, head and tail of spine repaired, rubbed, small hole in front cover), modern slipcase. Wing D1528. First published in 1635, when it was the first English road book with maps. Sold not subject to return.
