Woodcut hemispherical map surrounded by 8 classical windheads, letterpress key in side borders (repair and slight loss to text at foot of centrefold, centrefold strengthened on verso, 2 other repairs in blank areas, a few small stains), diameter of hemisphere 310mm., dimensions of sheet 560 x 428mm. See Shirley 90 for an an identical map with variant text in the borders. "Unlike Ptolemaic maps, Africa is not joined to Asia and the three known continents are all surrounded by water" (Shirley).
