Nova Totius Terrarum Orbis Geographica ac Hydrographica Tabula, [Amsterdam: c.1650]. Handcoloured engraved twin-hemisphere world map, symbols of the four elements and portraits of Julius Caesar, Claudius Ptolemaeus, Tycho Brahe and Nicolaus Copernicus in corners (a few repairs, trimmed fairly close to plate mark), 389 x 532mm. Shirley 381: "Two cartouches in the western hemisphere describe explorations of America and the Pacific ... Australia is only partially shown and the southern continent is still marked. Neither Tasmania nor New Zealand is shown. The north-west coastline of North America is retained under the title Nova Albion. Japan lacks any northern boundary as if it might be part of a larger land mass and the whole north-east part of Asia has been truncated."
