Travels from St. Petersburg in Russia to diverse parts of Asia, Glasgow: for the Author by Robert and Andrew Foulis, 1763. 2 volumes, small 4° (233 x 184mm.). One double-page folding engraved map by Jo Riddell. (Occasional light spotting.) Contemporary calf (rebacked, lower cover of vol. II damaged).

FIRST EDITION. "Bell spent about 25 years in Russia, in the diplomatic service of the Czar, from 1714. He then settled in Constantinople for a few years as a merchant, returning to Scotland c. 1746. He made several journeys to the Levant for diplomatic reasons including two to Persia in 1715-18 and 1722, and a journey to Constantinople in 1737-8" (Blackmer). Blackmer 111; Lust 314; Gaskell 415.
