Lot Essay

17 May 1789: "The Mosque to which this gate belongs is a handsome edifice....much in the style of the modern buildings of the same class at Delhi". The builder of the mosque, Hafiz Rahmat Khan had been killed in 1774 after reneging on a pact with Nawab of Oudh.
