AN ANTIQUE TURQUOISE AND GOLD PENDANT BROOCH
The chased gold lovebird, with cabochon turquoise detail, holding a cabochon turquoise and orange glass forget-me-not, suspending a cabochon turquoise boule and similarly-set chased gold chains, to the heart-shaped vinaigrette, the front pavé-set with cabochon turquoise, the reverse engraved with flowers and leaves, opening to reveal an engraved gold grill, mounted in gold, (one bird eye deficient, repair evident on brooch), each circa 1840, (combined at a later date)

Turquoise was commonly used to represent the forget-me-not flower, the best known symbol of true love and love in separation. During the mid 19th century, bridesmaids were traditionally given a pavé-set turquoise dove pin so as to remember their newly married friend.
