Lot Essay

Mowgli, made leader of the Bandar-log, is based on the Rudyard Kipling tale 'The Jungle Book', and more specifically the passage:
This time, they said, they were really going to have a leader and become the wisest people in the jungle - so wise that everyone else would notice and envy them'
Dollman was born in Hove and studied at South Kensington and the Royal Academy schools before establishing his studio in Bedford Park, London. He exhibited at the Royal Academy between the years 1870-1912, and was elected RWS in 1913. His most popular work was based around large-scale representations of the animal kingdom.
