Lot Essay

Built by Leslie of Newcastle for Liverpool, Brazil and River Plate Steam Navigation Co. in 1874, Maskelyne was registered at 2605 tons, with a length of 350.5 feet. Sold to Societe Royale Belge Sudamericaine, in 1886, she was re-registered in Antwerp. She was abandoned in the North Atlantic on 1st February 1903 whilst on passage from New Orleans to Antwerp.
