Lot Essay

The present lot depicts the Scots Greys, a British Heavy Cavalry Brigade successfully charging into the Russian cavalry. Within the war this would prove to be an indecisive battle between Russian and British-Turkish forces, however it has become notorious for the heavy British casualties caused by a misunderstanding between Lord Raglan, the British commander in chief, and Lord Lucan, the cavalry commander.
