A LATE MINOAN PAINTED TERRACOTTA LARNAX
1400-1200 B.C.
In the form of an oval 'bath-tub' with four horizontal semi-circular handles below the rim, decorated with reddish-brown painted motifs around the outside: on one long side two stylized octopuses, on the other a single octopus with three rows of stylized undulating tentacles to either side, undulating tentacles at the ends under the handles, the inside of the vessel decorated with four large and two small fish and two sets of vertical parallel lines, three drainage holes in the base
