Lot Essay

This is a preparatory sketch by Bouguereau for his painting titled Après le bain of 1894 which hung in the famous Hausner Restaurant's collection until 1999 and is now in a private collection. It depicts one of Bouguereau's favourite models, Mademoiselle Elize Brugière.

To be included in the forthcoming Bouguereau catalogue raisonné currently being prepared by Damien Bartoli with the assistance of Frederick Ross, the Bouguereau Committee and the American Society of Classical Realism.
