in a turned stained wooden case -- 11cm. (4 3/8in.) diameter
See Colour Illustration
One side of the case is incised with a signature on the outside. Inset to the interior is a 7.6cm. (3in.) diameter geomancer's feng shui compass, with seven concentric scales and a glazed compass at the centre. Set in to the other side of the case (repaired split to exterior) is a diptych dial. One half is semi-circular, with inset compass, three concentric scales and four further inscriptions in red. The other half of the dial is a square inclining face with two scales around a folding brass gnomon, and the corresponding base with grooved settings for the brass support arm. Flanking this section are two curved pieces of wood with pierced scroll decoration.
