MAX BECKMANN
This lot is exempt from Sales Tax. The following 15 lots comprise the Day and Dream portfolio and was Beckmann's last major printmaking endeavor. The primary goal of the set was to promote Beckmann's reputation in America. It was commissioned by Curt Valentin, his New York dealer at Buchholz Gallery - who donated this set to the Saint Louis Art Museum in 1950. The motifs are a combination of symbols and figures Beckmann used throughout his career.
