A FINE AND RARE CLOISONNE ENAMEL QUATREFOIL BOX AND COVER
QIANLONG PERIOD (1736-1795)
The upper surface of the box, finely enamelled in tones of iron-red, yellow, pink and green to depict branches of flowering prunus and peony flowers at various stages of bloom, enclosed by a blue enamel band and a gilt-metal key-fret border, the lobed vertical sides of the box and cover decorated with pairs of stylised confronted archaistic phoenix, raised on four ruyi-head gilt-metal feet, the underside with a central stylised floral spray growing leaves to the sides, surrounded by four smaller similarly designed flower sprays, all against a turquoise-ground, the interiors lined with silk
