TWO MINIATURE ZUSHI [TRAVELLING SHRINE]
Edo Period (17th-18th Century)
A small travelling shrine, the exterior black lacquer ground fitted with two doors hinged with silver fittings finely chased in the form of butterflies, the top with a silver ring-fitting with a gilt copper, silver and gold washer modelled as a cherry blossom, the interior with a standing figure of Jikokuten, standing on a demon, details in red and gold, the interior of the case gilt; and a sharitozushi, the exterior black lacquer ground fitted with two doors on each side, the gilt copper hinges chased with scrolling foliage, the top with a gilt copper ring-fitting with a washer modelled as a chrysanthemum, each side of the interior with Buddhist relics behind glass framed by a copper border, the interior and doors decorated in gilt with brocade pattern
