Lot Essay

A very similar plate from the Mottahedeh Collection is illustrated by Howard and Ayers, China for the West, London and New York, 1978, vol. I, p.152, no.132, where the introduction and use of bianco-sopra-bianco is discussed. A teapot and cover with this design is the Groninger Museum, illustrated by C.J.A. Jörg, Oosterse keramiek uit Groninger kollekties, Groningen, 1982, p.56, no.80.
