AUTOGRAPH COLLECTION. A collection of autograph letters signed, letters signed and cut signatures, the majority addressed to Herbert W. Mansfield, the correspondents including Henry Morton STANLEY (1901), H.G. WELLS (16 September 1934, a postcard, referring to his Autobiography, 'The Herald extracts are very much cut about'), Silvia PANKHURST (a typed letter signed, with autograph emendations, 15 March 1951, giving a dramatic description of her showdown with H.H. Asquith: 'Our procession was broken up. I was dragged off back to gaol under the Cat & Mouse Act ... I had told [Asquith] that I would hunger strike in prison or out, until he had agreed to receive [our Deputation] ... I went as soon as released to the steps of the House of Commons to continue my strike ... Members of Parliament were all horrified and rushed to Mr Asquith ...'), Arthur Quiller-Couch (2) and others; cut signatures include W. Holman Hunt, G.F. Watts (with a secretarial letter) and others.
