CHODOWIECKI, Daniel (1726-1801). Autograph letter (unsigned), an incomplete draft, to an unidentified correspondent, n.p., n.d., a passionate letter to a prospective director of the Berlin Kunstakademie, warning him that he is unprepared for the job, 'Sie verstehen gar nichts von academischen Geschäften ... nun daß Sie Director der Acadmie sind musten sie bedenken daß man ein [?guter] Kunstler und zugleich ein schlechter Director sein kan[n]', and urging him to observe the statutes of the Academy, two pages, 195 x 85mm, on a strip of paper cut from an envelope, tipped on to an album leaf (ink somewhat faded, light spotting and soiling, and occasional wear with the loss of a few words).

Chodowiecki became a member of the Berlin Kunstakademie in 1764, and himself became its director in 1797, four years before his death.
