Lot Essay

The Reverend Geoffrey Bennett's Collection of Works by Laurence Stephen Lowry, R.A. was sold at Christie's, London, 23 March 1995, lots 100-113 for £528,440. The present work was discovered after the sale, and included in the next suitable sale at Christie's.

The present work was executed during an annual visit to the Bennett family, who had moved to Cleator Moor during the 1940s. The pastel drawings made during these visits were often produced with pastels belonging to Geoffrey Bennett junior.
