Tasting note: First tasted in the chai with Denis Durantou in April 1998: marvellous fruit with violets overtone; sweet, fullish, delicious...later in July 1998 a lovely magnum: fleshy, small berry flavour. More recently ... in a blind tasting of first-growth '96s, all seven of which were showing almost equally well. L'Eglise-Clinet pegged level with the flanking Latour and Mouton. Being wise after the event I noted the Pomerol hallmark, a silky tannic texture. M.B.
