PLAUTUS, Titius Maccius (c.254-c.184 B.C.). Comoediae. Commentary by Joannes Petrus and Bernardinus Saracenus. Venice: Simon Bevilaqua, 17 September 1499.
Chancery 2° (308 x 219mm). Roman and Greek type, woodcut printer's device, initial spaces with guide-letter, initial supplied in ink in first six quires, later type ornament frame pasted on title, some deckle edges preserved, catchwords. (Some spotting and staining, a little marginal worming, 2 marginal repairs.) Contemporary half blindstamped calf over wooden boards (rebacked, boards a little damaged at edge, evidence of three (2 original and one later) clasps). Provenance: near-contemporary annotations in 2 hands -- Alexander Boswell, Paris, 1729 (?presumably the father of James Boswell and saviour of the Auchinleck manuscript, 1706-1782; label tipped on to title) -- New York, Manhattan College, The Brother Julian F.S.C. collection, donated by Mr. Christian A. Zabriskie (booklabel).
