Konstantin Gorbatov studied at the Arts Academy of St. Petersberg. In the early 20's, he moved to the United States and in 1928 settled in Germany travelling through Switzerland and Paris. While in Berlin, he worked as an illustrator for magazines published by Velhagen and Klasings. In 1945, when the soviet troops moved inside Berlin, he went with them to 'paint the war'. He died in Berlin on May 25th 1945 - most of his works were taken to Moscow after his death.
