Lot Essay

The Strathallen titles and estates had been forfeited after the 5th Viscount had taken part in the 1745/6 uprising. The titles and lands were restored to James Drummond by Act of Parliament in 1824. Drummond was Chief of the British settlement in Canton and was MP for Perth from 1812-1824. Following the restoration of his titles he became a Scottish Representative peer from 1824 until his death in 1851.
