A SWISS ENAMELLED AND SPLIT-PEARL SET GOLD CARNET-DE-BAL
Geneva, circa 1780/1800, maker's marks partly rubbed including a 'G' as second letter and a '&', possibly for Jean-Georges Rémond & Cie.
Slightly tapering rectangular étui-à-tablettes with arched top, both sides of cover and base with wavy guilloché panels covered with translucent blue enamel within foliate multicolour and gold paillon border, framed by white enamel bands, obverse and reverse of cover with white inscription Souvenir D'amitié, the obverse of the base centred by an oval enamel scene of a nude child mocking a warrior holding a flag, the reverse of the base with similar scene of a nude child playing the violin to a dancing dog, the matted gold borders inset with split-pearls and enamelled in translucent green with trailing leavage, bright-cut gold rims, the inside fitted with a gold capped pencil and gold-rivetted three leaved tablets
