Lot Essay

Törnebladh studied in Uppsala and Lund. After a remarkable career in the Swedish state department of Justice, he was made a state councillor in 1840 and minister of Justice in the following year. He married Sofia Charlotta von Oldenskiöld in 1812 and had three daughters. The pair to the present miniature depicting Sofia Charlotta, signed by Bolinder and dated 1805, was last recorded in 1918 at Taxinge Castle. We are indebted to Ms Emilia Ström, Swedish Portrait Archives, Stockholm, for her help in researching the present miniature.
