Lot Essay

The sitter, who was the daughter of William Knight of Kingerby, Lincoln, and sister and heir of Richard Knight, married Sir Thomas Rookwood Gage, 5th Bt., of Hengrave Hall, Bury St. Edmunds, and of Coldham Hall, Stanningfield, Suffolk on 28 February 1746. She died on 3 September 1781 at the age of 59 and was buried at Hengrave.
