The first with earlier curved single-edged blade double-edged at the point and etched and gilt on each side of the forte with Turkish emblems and cabbalistic signs, the silver hilt with lobe-tipped quillons and chain knuckle-guard, in silver scabbard engraved on one side with a coat-of-arms; the second with ivory grip-scales probably from a French 18th-century hunting sword, in silver scabbard engraved 'AP Charleston 1859'; the third with silver-mounted wooden grip, in silver-mounted wooden scabbard, the top mount engraved 'H. McConnell San Francisco 1865' above a Masonic device
