A COMPOSITE ALL-STEEL DAGGER
The blade French, second half of the 16th Century
Fitted with a fine straight leaf-shaped blade constricted at the base and with rectangular ricasso and a back-edge for most of its length, the ricasso, the back and half the length of the blade etched with conventional scrollwork on a hatched ground, on the front of the ricasso the etched sacred monogram 'IHS', the later iron hilt in German mid-16th century style with a raised moulding at the centre of the grip
