TWO SILVER-HILTED SMALL-SWORDS
The first circa 1760, the second late 18th Century
The first with colichemarde blade of hollow triangular section with etched decoration on each side of the forte (worn), boatshell hilt pierced with scrollwork enclosing musical trophies, and original grip bound with silver ribbon and twisted silver wire (knuckle-guard worn and repaired); the second with slender blade of hollow diamond section etched, blued and gilt on each side of the forte (some rust and pitting), the hilt with oval shell and urn-shaped pommel, and decorated throughout with fluting, the grip bound with silver wire (knuckle-guard bent), in original shagreen-covered scabbard (defective) with silver mouth-locket (chape missing), London sterling mark with silversmith's mark of William Kinman
