A STEEL-HILTED OFFICER'S SMALL-SWORD
Circa 1780
With narrow single-edged spadroon-type blade double-edged towards the point, with a wide shallow fuller extending the whole length on each face, and small ricasso, divided from the hilt by a flat steel scabbard-cap, the hilt (Norman type 109) comprising a side-loop merging with the knuckle-guard and framing a side-ring, and globular pommel with prominent button, decorated throughout with diagonal gadrooning, the grip bound with steel wire and copper ribbon
