TWO SILVER-HILTED SMALL-SWORDS
The first circa 1760, probably English, the second early 18th Century, probably French
The first with tapering blade of hollow triangular section, the hilt cast and chased with designs, comprising, on the shells, quillon-block and pommel, pierced panels containing foliated scrollwork (the pommel damaged), and elswhere with panels containing relief sprays and fan-like motifs, bordered and flanked throughout by a tree-bark pattern, the grip bound with silver ribbon and twisted wire; the second with similar blade, the hilt cast and chased in relief throughout with trophies of arms and scrollwork, the grip bound with twisted silver wire (loose)
