The charity manages retirement homes in Sussex and Lancashire, monthly grants of money, major cash grants to provide such items as wheelchairs, help with nursing home fees and an advice and visiting service. Last year it helped over 500 people, its beneficiaries being mainly the elderly, infirm and lonely. All have in common long and faithful service to the drink industry. In 1992, when the charity was under the chairmanship of Michael Broadbent, a major auction of wine, donated to raise much needed funds, was held. This sale raised the magnificent total of (46,000. Arising from this, a committee was formed to manage "The Benevolent Cellar", wines and spirits donated to the charity specifically to be sold at Christie's in order to generate funds. If any client would like to consider donating wines for future sales, either small lots of interesting wines, or cases of younger wines, such donations would be enormously gratefully received. This is an exceptionally worthy cause Lying in Gloucestershire at Christie's (Octavian)
