Four German fayence pewter-mounted tankards
Mid-18th Century, one 20th Century
Comprising; a powdered-manganese ground example painted with an oval medallion of flowers surrounded by blue scrolls between panelled border with pendant foliage, the cover incised with the date 1766 (cracked), another perhaps Königesberg, boldly painted with stylised buildings on a fenced terrace flanked by plants and branches (handle broken and repaired, flaking to top rim), another painted in manganese with an Oriental figure holding a fish flanked by panels of sponged trees and divided by borders of blue and yellow flowerheads (extensively damaged and restored), and an example in the 18th Century style with an eagle, orb and stylised flowers, the hinged pewter covers with ball thumbpieces
