A LOUIS XVI CREAM-PAINTED AND PARCEL-GILT CANAPE

The oval shaped back, padded arms, upholstered sides and seat cushion covered in ivory satin brodé aux Indes embroidered with a deer and dogs, probably representing a scene from the Fables de la Fontaine, the frame carved with trailing husks and crowned with a musical trophy, flanked by stiff-leaf wrapped finials, the acanthus-carved arms above similarly carved rails and leaf-wrapped stop-fluted turned tapering legs terminating in toupie feet, redecorated, stamped twice 'G.IACOB', with painted mark 'R.MA' and ink inscription 'Ed de Rothschild' and a paper label inscribed 'Grand Salon bleu'
