A George II ebonised and brass-mounted table timepiece, mid 18th century
With brass handle to inverted bell top, foliate cast brass spandrels to the front door frets, glazed side panels, moulded frame to rear door, on bracket feet, the 7in. diameter brass dial now white painted (formerly silvered) and with Roman chapters, date aperture, pierced and engraved brass hands, the five pillar single wire fusee movement with verge escapement, the back plate with engraved border and signed Thwaites/London -- 16¼in. (41cm.) high to hilt of handle
