Lot Essay

Dr. Newcome Schleier has confirmed the attribution to Luca Cambiaso on the basis of a photograph in a letter dated 2 November 2001. The drawing, as suggested by the inscription, is related to the picture of the same subject painted in 1559 for the Church of S. Bartolomeo degli Armeni in Ancona (L. Magnani, Luca Cambiaso, Genoa, 1995, p. 87, illustrated).
