Lot Essay

One of a group of 125 drawings of tradesmen and market scenes formerly bound in an album in a private collection in Turin (F. Zava Boccazzi, 'An unpublished album of drawings by Ercole Setti', Master Drawings, VI (1969), pp. 356-363, pls. 1-9). A drawing from the same group showing Vendors of Horoscopes is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (J. Bean, 15th and 16th Century Italian Drawings in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, 1982, no. 238), while another was formerly in the collection of Pierre de Charmant; Christie's, Paris, 21 March 2002, lot 10.
