Lot Essay

In 1767, Johann Christoph Friedrich Schiller (1759-1805) moved to Ludwigsburg with his parents. The family's first Ludwigsburg lodging was in the house of the court physician Reichenbach, the father of the painter Ludovike Simanowitz, who would later stay in close contact with the family and end up painting several of Schiller's portraits.
