Peche produced a prodigious number of ceramic designs for the Wiener Werkstätte from 1913 onwards. In the course of his work he become close to the Schleiss family, owners of the Veireinigte Wiener und Gmundner Keramik, which was then responsible for executing all ceramics on behalf of the Wiener Werkstätte. The vase was designed especially for Herr Schleiss, and was never repeated.
This piece remained in the Schleiss family until the 1990s.
