The hinged finial opening to form a cigerette and vesta case in the hollow shaft, the grip decorated with chased scrolling foliage and the hinged cover stamped PATENT No. 2948

And a silver birch mounted malacca "gadget" cane, early 20th century, the grip unscrewing to adapt into pipe bowl, the stem fitted within the shaft -- 36in. (91.5cm.) high (2)
