Lot Essay

The authenticity of this work has been confirmed by Robert Descharnes.
René Crevel (1900-1935) was a writer and active participant in the Surrealist movement. In June 1933, the year in which this work was executed, Dalí and Crevel exhibited together at the Galerie Pierre Colle, alongside Arp, Breton, Duchamp, Eluard, Ernst, Magritte, Picasso and others. For the catalogue of this exhibition, Dalí wrote the text-manifesto 'Oui Breton...' (exh. cat., Salvador Dalí, Stuttgart, 1989, p. 484).
