Circa 1722
In the center a large coat-of-arms above the motto SEGUITANDO SI GIUNGE within a rose banner, the well with iron-red and gilt cell diaper pattern and the feathers crest on the rim centering clusters of flower branches and precious objects, the back with four large iron-red peony sprigs
15½in. (39.3cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

From the famous service made for Sir John Lambert (d. 1723), a director of the South Sea Company, which displays probably the earliest datable use of rose enamel. See D.S. Howard, op. cit., pp. 43 and 206, for a discussion of the commission and the Lambert family
