A calvary skirmish by a river, a fortress beyond

The present composition relates to two paintings, removed from Pitchford Hall, Shropshire and subsequently sold at Christie's, London, 18 April 1996, lots 5 and 6. Both compositions have a similar posed white horse which is also visible in the present lot.
