Lot Essay

Formerly attibuted to the Támara Master, we are grateful to Isabel Mateos for the attribution to Alonso Gallego. She has pointed out that works previously given to the Támara Master are in fact by two different artists: Alonso Gallego, the author of the present lot, and Andrés de Melgar, a follower of Berruguete. For more information on the artist, see Moya Balgañon, 'Aspectos del Arte Riojano en los tiempos de Navarrete', Quinta jornada de Arte Riojano, Logroño, 1995, and Parrado del Olmo, Boletín de Arte y Arqueología, 64, 1998.
