Lot Essay

Cf. Lorenz et. al., Weisses Gold aus Fürstenberg (Braunschweig, 1988), fig. 77. The form was modelled by Johann Christof Rombrich in 1758-59. Ducret, ibid., p. 109, ascribes the painted landscapes to Hartmann, whereas Lorenz ibid., p. 187, says that 'overtones of J.P.F. Weitsch are recognisable'. The handling of the aerial perspective, the trees and stony paths support this, but the lower edges of the vignettes with roots, rocks and leaves are particularly close to Weitsch's style.
