CONTEMPORARY GILT-TOOLED LIMP VELLUM, gilt edges (very minor stains); modern brown half-morocco folding case. Provenance: [Sotheby's, 17 October 1951, lot 748, £16 to R. FIRST EDITION, and the first appearance in print of three of the four tracts contained herein. The appearance of Considerations touching a warre with Spain in 'a corrupt and surreptitious edition' (see editor's preface) compelled Rawley, Bacon's friend, chaplain, and amanuensis, to publish a correct version of that work, together with others, in order to establish a proper text for Bacon's work.
