HUXLEY, Aldous. Point Counter Point. London: Chatto and Windus, 1928. 8° (205 x 129mm). Original orange cloth, dust-jacket, morocco-backed slipcase. FIRST EDITION.

Point Counterpoint has been described as 'almost a novel without a story' about the artistic and literary life of London in the twenties (L. Brander. Aldous Huxley: A Critical Study, 1969), and compared with Vanity Fair. Written through characters and conversation rather than as a narrative, in the latter part increasingly exaggerated episodes move towards a melodramatic crime story. Everything in it is subordinated to the principle of irony, and Huxley reaches in the novel the height of his formal achievement (P. Bowering. Aldous Huxley. A study of the major novels, 1968). (2)
