Lot Essay

Son of one of the most prominent manufacturers of Aubusson carpets under the reign of Louis XVI, Jean-Charles Sallandrouze de la Mornaix (1808-1867) continued to run his father's successful enterprise throughout the second Empire.

This example is typical of the rococo-revival designs that were produced by the workshop during this period until, having suffered through the revolution of September 1870, the company were eventually declared bankrupt.
